2018 Championship Weekend and Season Recap

Another season is wrapping up, and we’re about to crown the winner of 2018! We will also find out who is the biggest loser of the league.

For anyone still paying attention even though their season is over, here are the match-up previews:

The Burgh Crew FFL Championship

6. Helmet Wearers (6-7) (Grade: C+) – vs – 2. Tittsburgh Feelers (8-5) (Grade: B+)

This is Kyle’s 2nd appearance in the big game, and this is James’ 5th straight. These two met in the 2014 Championship game, and Helmet Wearers, who finished with the best record that season, came out on top. This year, Kyle eked out a win in the last week of the season which punched his ticket to the playoffs, as the lowest seed. Helmet Wearers posted the lowest point total of all teams in the league with just 1,710pts, but that didn’t stop him from thumping Mike and Jim in the first two rounds of the playoffs to get to the championship game.

James was 2-5, and sitting at the bottom of the league, but after a 6-game win streak, finished with 2nd best record in the league. This marks the 6th Championship game for Tittsburgh Feelers, and he looks to do better than last year when he fell to Look ma no hands. James beat Kyle in both match-ups this season, and owns a 12-5 record all-time. James and Kyle are the only teams to have a winning record in the playoffs, and are 10-3 and 7-3, respectively.

Yahoo gives Tittsburgh Feelers a slight edge heading into this weekends action.

The Toilet Bowl

8. 6 Ringers (4-9) (Grade: F) – vs – 7. Stairwayto7 (5-8) (Grade: D-)

There is not much to be said about this match-up. Stairwayto7…Your name must’ve been about the basement stairs to 7th place; congrats, you made it! Can you keep it? Beat Jon and his 0 Rings and you can avoid having your name etched as repeat Toilet Bowl Champion.

Jon tied his worst season record, and has missed the playoffs for the first time in 6 seasons. Jon has never finished worse than sixth place, and will try to avoid the dreaded 8th spot.

Brady is reigning Toilet Bowl Champion, so this isn’t uncharted territory for him, but it’s still not a welcomed experience. Stairwayto7 was close to making the playoffs, but with Helmet Wearers narrowly beating Dominator by 4pts, Stairwayto7 must now try to get a win against 6 Ringers, or else have his name virtually etched in the Toilet Trophy, again.

Yahoo projects Stairwayto7 will win, and 6 Ringers to be crowned Toilet Bowl Champ

Season Review:

1. Bleeds Black-N-Gold (9-6) Grade: A-

Disappointing! Nothing much else to say about their early playoff exit. After finishing the season with the best record, 3rd in Points For, and entering the playoffs on a 4-game win streak, the Championship seemed promising. Unfortunately, Jim’s team drastically fell short of projections, and Helmet Wearers’ team came to play. This is the second time Bleeds Black-N-Gold posted a 9-4 record and finished first in the league, but, again, it didn’t lead him to the promise land. Along with Tittsburgh Feelers, they are the only teams to have made the playoffs every season…so they have that going for them.

Jim will play against Ron this week for 3rd place.

3. Rabid Spider Monkeys (7-6) – Fifth Place Finish Grade: B+

Mike finished 7th, 8th, and 8th over the last 3 seasons. After having his team labeled “Toilet Bowl Champion” twice, and narrowly avoiding a 3-peat last year, he finally turned it all around. This season he tied his best record, and made his second playoff appearance; unfortunately, the playoffs were one-and-done. Rabid Spider Monkeys did have the highest Points For total this season…it’s not a championship, but it’s gotta count for something.

4. The Dominator (7-6) – Sixth Place Finish Grade: C+

This is the first season Chelsie finished with a winning record, and the fourth straight playoff appearance. The playoffs were short lived, falling to Look ma no hands, and after a positioning game loss to Rabid Spider Monkeys, The Dominator finishes in 6th place. Chelsie had the fewest points scored against her in the league, and only made two roster moves. It would have been interesting to see how far she could have gone if she cut the two players she had on IR, and picked up some quality replacements.

5. Look ma no hands (6-7) Grade: C-

The reigning league champion started the season off slow, at 0-2. After rallying to get a record worthy of a playoff spot, he pulled off a nice win against The Dominator in the first round. Unfortunately for him, he lost to a streaking Tittsburgh Feelers team who has won their 7th straight victory. The once cellar dweller, turned to league Champ had a disappointing season overall. Ron went 10-3 and 11-2 over the last two seasons, so going 6-7 is a bit of a let down.
